Alchemy Pay at EthCC Brussels: Empowering Mainstream Usability
EthCC in Brussels last week brought together crypto’s biggest and most enthusiastic community. With hundreds of networking events sprawling out across the Belgian capital and the main event itself, it was a powerful display of the fervour and support that Ethereum still commands.
With usability and accessibility at the forefront of the event, this was the year’s most important gathering for smart contract and DeFi developers this year. Representatives from Alchemy Pay’s Europe and Asia teams were there to meet peers and partners in the fiat-crypto payment space, Web3 developers, and also to remain up to date on the very latest developments.
Alchemy Pay Presents the 2024 Fiat-Crypto Landscape
A highlight of the event for Alchemy Pay was our presentation at the official EthCC event given by our Ecosystem Lead, Robert McCracken. With “Bridging the Fiat and Crypto Economies: Payments & Progress in 2024,” Robert delivered an address that explored the developments of on & off ramp providers in the wider context of crypto, tradfi, and regulators.
Recent years have been considered a crypto winter in one sense but, with the launch of our new services such as the Crypto Card, Multi-Fiat bank accounts, and fiat currency exchanges, it is clear that there has been a consistent coming together of web3 and traditional payments. Mastercard’s push for the launch of web3 cards and Visa’s continued trialling of the ERC 4337 Paymaster to abstract gas fees were highlighted.
Vitalik Excites Devs at AltLayer Rollup Day
Alchemy Pay’s team also found time to meet with many new and established projects at this year’s packed out Rollup Day organised by our recent integration partner, AltLayer. The day featured a talk by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. His vision for a more resilient and accessible Ethereum network utilising layer-2 chains and multisig wallets was inspiring. The keynote was a demonstration of the importance and impact of positive and respected figures in a space that so often lacks a human touch’s continued influence and thought leadership in the crypto space.
Apps and Intellectual Property in Focus
As Farcaster’s daily active users hit an all-time high for seven-day trailing average at around 67,000 at the time of EthCC, it was a good marker to show the importance of usable apps for the Ethereum ecosystem. Many events and speakers focused on the importance of apps that are so good that they cross over to the mainstream. There is a sense that the infrastructure — including Alchemy Pay’s fiat-crypto services — can now fully support Ethereum devs in adaptive and versatile ways. What is still missing is the mainstream friendly array of apps that Web2 users currently enjoy.
Also at the event was discussion of intellectual property on chain. There was some excitement around the 16z-backed Story Protocol which announced it would be launching the world’s first intellectual property blockchain with its new Story network. The chain will let creators upload their intellectual property to the blockchain, where they can then set the terms for how the intellectual property can be used and monetized.
